Premier A/S Tires by Michelin

Originally founded in 1880, Michelin Tires currently stands as the world's second biggest tire manufacturer. Based in Clermont-Ferrand in the Auvergne Region of France, the brand currently employs over 114,000 employees in 69 production facilities around the globe, allowing them to distribute high quality tires to over 170 countries.

Michelin is also notable for its Red and Green travel guides, its roadmaps, the Michelin stars that the Red Guide awards to restaurants for their cooking, and for its company mascot Bibendum, colloquially known as the Michelin Man.

Michelin tires are original equipment by top automotive brands like Mercedes-Benz, Acura, Audi, BMW, Lexus, Volvo, Honda, Chevrolet Corvette and Dodge Viper.

Research and Development

With over 125 years' worth of experience in the tire industry, Michelin knows that Research and Development is a key factory to its success and evolution of the modern tire. Today, 6,600 R&D people strive to meet your changing mobility needs. They are diligently researching chemistry, physics, and new technologies, as well as testing prototypes. Michelin's hubs are located on three continents and in seven countries: China, France, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand and the United States. Their R&D facility is responsible for developing fine products, such as the first 80,000 mile passenger tire. Michelin tires deliver great handling, superior wet traction, long mileage and traction. Michelin's R&D team does not believe in compromise when it comes to the quality of their product.

Sustainability and Environment

Michelin has cared about sustainability and the environment before standards were ever imposed. As early as 1946, with the introduction of the radial tire (now the most common tire), the brand reduced the rolling resistance of tires by 30%. In 1992, Michelin introduced Silica technology, allowing them to reduce rolling resistance by another 20%. What does this mean? Improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions with each successive generation of tires.

Racing and Motorsports

Michelin is also deeply rooted in motorsports. The brand may be seen at Formula One, 24 hours of Le Mans and The World Rally Championship. Michelin has had a winning presence on the racetrack for over 125 years with partners like Porsche, BMW and Audi. In fact, some of their engineers are more present there than at Michelin!

Endurance racing: “To win, you have to go as fast as possible with the fewest number of pit stops. This is where we learned to build long-lasting, energy-efficient tires – ones that brought us 23 wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 17 of them in a row.”

Rally racing: “Winning cars are fast and precise in extremely diverse, real road conditions. We learned to make tires that handle all conditions to deliver precise driving – and 21 World Rally Championship Drivers' titles and 23 Manufacturers' titles.”

Michelin claims racing is the most grueling punishment you can put a tire through. They're also the ultimate R&D labs. Testing in the world's most intense races lets them continually improve their products.
