My car: 2015 Mercedes-Benz B250 4Matic 4Matic (205/50R17 93 H 6.5x17) Winter tires I have (came with car) but not mounted on wheels: 205 50R17 93H M+S so my current winter tires should fit into MR140 SS10 wheel. Q: is it generally recommended to go a bit narrower (7") or wider (8") in terms of the width of the wheel withing acceptable play?

Generally speaking, you do not want to deviate too far from the original wheel or tire size your car comes with, especially for winter time.
If your current tire size is a 205/50R17, our suggestion would be to pick the narrower option of 7' wide for this application. This tire size is suggested for wheels with widths between 5.5" and 7.5", so the 8" width is considered a bit too wide.
